The museum is housed in the original Black Diamond Railroad Depot, commissioned in 1886. It is operated by the Black Diamond Historical Society. The museum has two (2) floors of artifacts, displays and stories to share with you to tell the story of “Black Diamond-King of Coal.”  Outside you will find the Coal Miners’ Honor Garden, honoring the 1100 men who perished underground in mines in the State of Washington. A jail house, school bell housing, wash house, tool shed and coal car are also on the property. Most popular with kids of all ages, come aboard our restored locomotive and caboose!

The railroad depot has been landmarked by the State of Washington, King County and the City of Black Diamond. We are grateful to the City, King County and 4Culture of King County for continuous support of our operations. Come and explore our museum to see and experience our history.

You will find our docents welcoming and helpful if you are looking for specific information. Come visit us soon!
